According to PM News, the accident involved an articulated truck and two commercial buses belonging to Onitsha-based Cross Country and Warri-based Agofure Motors.
National Youth Service Corps members were heading to Bayelsa state from Lagos and Ibadan for orientation for the Batch C of the National Youth Service Corps, in Kaiama.
Young people were travelling in a 15-seater Cross Country bus that crashed into a moving articulated truck in front of it, while the bus behind it (Agofure Motors) also rammed into the Cross Country bus.
Six of the Corps members have sustained varying degrees of injuries and were immediately rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where they are currently receiving medical assistance.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is an organisation set up by the Nigerian government to involve the country’s graduates in the development of the country.
There is no military conscription in Nigeria, but since 1973 graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program for one year. This is known as national service year.
