N450m cash: Ex-Gov Ngilari falls sick in EFCC custody, hospitalised

Former Customs boss Inde keeps mum on alleged diverted N40bn

A former governor of Adamawa State, James Ngilari, has fallen sick, barely two days after being taken into the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission  (EFCC) for interrogation.

The former governor was named  in the collection and sharing of the state’s share of the N450 campaign funds sent to the state  ahead of  the  2015  elections.

A  former ambassador, Hassan Adamu, had told interrogators that although he was a co-signatory to the collection of the cash from Fidelity Bank, it was Ngilari who authorised  his aide on how to share the cash.

Adamu was quizzed and released on Thursday while Ngilari was detained based on his inability to convince interrogators on how the money was spent.

But Sunday Vanguard gathered that barely after being detained, the former governor became sick and was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe for medical attention.

An EFCC top official said that the hospital was working hard to stabilise Ngilari.

The source said: “Governor Ngilari was taken in our ambulance to the hospital on Saturday and he is receiving attention.

“He took ill a few days after being detained.”

Meanwhile, a  former Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Dikko Inde, who was detained on Thursday in connection with the diversion of N40 billion, is said to have remained mute since being taken into EFCC custody.

A competent source said: “The man is with us but he has not said anything yet.”
