A female evangelist, Ijeoma Ogbuehi has been arrested for kidnapping a four-year-old girl identified as Chinasa Okeke, Daily Post reports.
The self-styled evangelist who was nabbed and paraded alongside three others, reportedly carried out the said act with the intention of selling the young girl before they were caught.
According to Andrew Enwerem, the public relations officer of the Imo state police command where the suspects were paraded, the Ogbuehi; a 20-year-old man, Chibueze Okorie; Chinonso Ogbedi and Joy Nwosu all of Orsu local government area of the state were arrested after information reached them from members of the public.
Chinasa was allegedly kidnapped from her school, St Joseph Primary School in Umuhu-Okabia, but was rescued from her abductors before further harm could come on her.
“We received distress calls that one Chinasa Okeke was stolen from her school. We swung into action immediately where we rescued the child unhurt and arrested these four miscreants in the process who have all confessed to the crime,” Mr Enwerem said.
Okorie, who was identified as the prime suspect in the kidnap incident, confessed thus: “Miss Ogbuehi asked me to abduct the little child, promising to reward me with N200, 000 when she gets a buyer.
“Unfortunately for me, she never got to pay me as at the time of our arrest. The child was sold in Ihiala, Anambra State.”
On her part, Ogbuehi, a graduate of Trinity College of Ministerial Acts, Aba in Abia state, denied ever promising to give out N200, 000 as alleged, while defending her act by explaining that she was legally qualified to adopt less privileged childrenbut could not show any certificate to back this up.
The rescued girl, it was gathered, has since been reunited with her parents with the police spokesperson adding that, “the suspects would soon be charged to court for child stealing and trafficking.”
