It was gathered that the 34 year old rejected an approach from Tottenham and also a late interest from Arsenal to be part of their academy.
Guardiola and Arteta first knew each other from growing up in the Barcelona academy.
Arteta is seen as an outstanding future managerial prospect and left Arsenal on good enough terms to one day potentially return as a possible replacement for Arsene Wenger.
One of his first tasks might at City will be to urge his former club Everton allow John Stones join the Etihad stadium outfit.
Everton are adamant they will not sell the England defender this summer but City will definitely go for the 22-year-old, believing he wants to come.
Recall that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed that Arteta will join Guardiola at Manchester City next season.
Incoming Manchester City head coach Guardiola will bring his trusted team of Carles Planchart, Domenec Torrent and fitness coach Lorenzo Buenaventura with him to England.
