Aisha Buhari has left Nigeria to perform lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia. Her trip caused rumours that the president’s wife cancelled USA trip due to accusations of involvement into Halliburton scandal.
The wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, has become involved in a spat with the Governor of the Ekiti state Ayo Fayose over corruption accusations.
Fayose stated that Buhari’s wife was the person indicted by an American court for transferring $170,000 to indicted US Congressman, Williams Jefferson , in the Halliburton scandal. He further insinuated that Mrs. Buhari has been avoiding travelling to the US in order to evade arrest.
Later, the news emerged that the First Lady scheduled to visit the USA for the World First Ladies Conference holding at Colorado. However, Daily Trust reports that Mrs. Buhari has left Nigeria to perform the lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Zakari Nadabo, the media director in the Office of the Wife of the President, announced this in a statement on June 30, Thursday. But Mr. Nadabo has said nothing about cancellation of the US trip by the president’s fact. There are no indications that Aisha Buhari had ever planned her visit to America because she has no need to prove her innocence.
This is the second time Buhari’s wife visited Saudi Arabia to perform lesser hajj.
Last year there were reports that the Nigerian Embassy in Saudi Arabia supposedly failed to give Mrs. Buhari and her five children the VIP treatment that usually comes with being members of Nigeria’s first family.
However, the president’s family later denied this development. President Buhari in February visited Holy Kaaba in Saudi Arabia, the most sacred place in the world, as it is believed to be the “House of God.”
