President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war is not thorough, Bishop Matthew Hassan-Kukah of the Catholic Diocese, Sokoto.
Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on Tuesday, July 26, during a programme organised by the Book Readers’ Club of Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy (ISGPP), the Bishop stated that the federal government is only fighting the symptoms of corruption and not the
‘disease’ itself. He said: “Government should begin the fight against corruption from the institution, so that we will not continue to have the same result” adding that the fight against corruption would have
been better had the federal government tied it to governance.
While revealing the memoirs of Oputa Panel, Bishop Kukah explained that Nigerians are yet to realise the fact that they were all wounded, irrespective of ethnicity, religion or political parties.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted the bishop to have said: “Almost all bad things in Nigeria have validation and a lot of Nigerians have gone through several harsh treatments without charges.
“Many of those ethnic leaders are ethnic entrepreneur, who use their people to get what they want.
“There is need for mechanism that will guarantee justice for victim, perpetrator and larger society, likewise seeking God “Nigerians like blaming the nation’s woes on some persons and are always obsessed of a messiah.
“We need to create elasticity to be able to accommodate the various agitations across the country.”
Kukah also recently revealed that the renewed agitation for the actualisation of Biafra was caused by the government’s poor strategy in handling the issue.
The bishop shared his thoughts in the 2016 edition of Truth Magazine.
He said: “The so called movement for Biafra has gestated more as a result of the poor strategy that the government may have adopted in dealing with these issues.”
