Kylie Jenner, model and reality star, best known for her family’s show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, has applied to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark her first name and go by Kylie.
The problem is that Australian singer Kylie Minogue has been performing as Kylie since before Jenner was even born.
Minogue’s representatives have filed papers to oppose Jenner’s application in order to stop the young star from using the name Kylie and “diluting the pop singer’s brand”.
Minogue has sold more than 65 million albums worldwide, has won numerous awards for her work and has owned the domain name kylie.com since Aug. 21, 1996, which is one year before Jenner was born. On the other hand, Jenner is a supporting character in a reality show who can’t quite compare to Minogue just yet.
Minogue posted a tweet to her 2.3 followers on Twitter, which read “Hello….. My name is KYLIE #lightyears” on February 28, thus addressing the dispute and attempting to put Jenner back in her place.
