Secretary to the Federal Government of Nigeria (SFGN) Engr. Babachir David Lawal represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Dr. Amina Shamaki said yesterday in Sokoto that, the President Muhammadu Buhari’s led governed remained committed to improving the lives of young Nigerians to help them realise their full potentials.
The SFGN who spoke during the official presentation of National Lottery Intervention Sports Equipment to 48 public primary schools across sokoto state, added that, sports remained a bridge builder aside it’s economic benefits.
David Babachir Laval divulged further that, the government’s interest in sports has encouraged the local manufacturing of sports equipment and product in Nigeria.
“To this end, I am pleased to acknowledge the production of international quality football by the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT, Zaria in Kaduna State”.
Said the SFGN, “I congratulate the beneficiaries of the intervention including People Living with Disabilities (PWDs), as I am sure you are fully aware that this government is committed to improving the lives of young Nigerians in order to enable them realise their full potentials.
“Helping them refocus their energies towards participating actively in sports, will go a long way not only in boosting their morale and self esteem but, , will also, reaffirm our position as a leading nation in sports in Africa and in the world”.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary/CEO National
Lottery Trust Fund, Engr. Nabu Gumel affirmed that the ceremony was simply but a manifestation of the Presidents’ commitment to sports development even at the grassroot level.
Gumel added that, the sporting equipment will be distributed to all the states of the federation.
“Today’s ceremony therefore, reaffirm that this Administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari is strongly passionate and committed to advancing, uplifting and promoting grassroots sports development in the country and this excerice of equipping our public primary schools with quality sports equipment through funding from the national lottery is a clear demonstration of government’s desire to foster better inclusion of the most vulnerable segments of pur society, especially our school children”.
On his part, the DG National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Mr Adolphus Joe Ekpe represented by the State Coordinator, Alhaji Aminu Sule disabused the minds of those that hitherto sees lottery as gambling.
He insisted that, lottery was simply but one of the numerous ways of generating revenue for the government. “Lottery is aimed at creating and redistributing of wealth”.
Giving his nod to the federal government’s keen interest in grassroots sports, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Sa’ad Abubakar 111 represented by the Ciroman Sokoto, Alhaji Buhari Abubakar 111 called on other agencies, publicnspirited individuals as well as cooperate organizations to emulate the gesture by National Lottery Trust Fund for the benefit of Nigerians.
While assuring that government will continue support all policies and programmes aimed at improving the well-being of Nigerians, Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, Aisha Abubakar noted that, sports promote social inclusion of Nigerian youths.
According to the Minister, sports, especially amongst the youths build and improve their mental ability as well as concentration leading to better academic performance.
Declaring the presentation of sporting equipment to benefiting 48 public primary schools in the state open, governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal commended PMB for his commitment towards moving Nigeria forward as demonstrated by the provision of sporting facilities to primary schools across the state.
The governor Thomas represented by the Head of Service, Dr Buhari Bello Kware added that getting children to participate in sporting activities remained a priority in his administration, hence the need to genuinely appreciate the PMB led administration for setting the pace.
