David de Gea has remained coy on his
Manchester United future amid reports of renewed interest from Real Madrid but is 'very happy' in England.
De Gea, 26, saw a protracted transfer to Real scuppered on
transfer deadline day 18 months ago over a delay in paperwork and inked a new United contract the following week.
The
Spain goalkeeper's deal at United runs until 2019 and the club has the
option of extending it by a further year, but he was asked about his
future by a Spanish journalist during a United sponsor's event on
Wednesday.
"Nobody knows the future,"
De Gea told AS
when asked how he saw his future at United. "The future is the future.
I’m very happy at United, it’s a great club. In England football is much
enjoyed.
"Madrid? I will not talk about that. On that subject I will not talk any more. Now I must stay focused with my club.
"We are already in the final of the League Cup and we are still
fighting for the FA Cup and the Europa League to continue making history
in this club. We have to give the team time to win the Premier League
again."
Jose Mourinho intervened to kill Real lingering interest in De Gea in the summer and privately stressed it would be illogical to sell one of United's best players.
M.E.N. Sport revealed in the days between Louis van Gaal’s sacking and Mourinho’s appointment De Gea was happy to stay at United under the Portuguese. De Gea and Mourinho are both represented by the agent Jorge Mendes.
De Gea joined United for £18.9million from Atletico Madrid in 2011
and has won the Premier League and FA Cup during his five-and-a-half
years in Manchester. The Spain international could complete a domestic
treble in the EFL Cup final against Southampton at Wembley later this
month.
Last season, De Gea became the first player in United's
history to win the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award three years
running.
