Former Netherlands international Wim Kieft has slammed Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, claiming that he’s a “clown” who is “addicted to attention”.
The Dutch tactician is currently in his second season in charge of the Red Devils after stepping in to replace David Moyes, and although he helped the club back into the Champions League, results and performances have been relatively poor this term.
Van Gaal himself has come under a great deal of pressure as a result of this, and cracks showed before Christmas when he stormed out of a press conference and called a journalist “fat man”.
His latest notable incident came during his side’s 3-2 win over Arsenal when he dived on the touchline when protesting a decision, and former Oranje forward, Kieft, has launched a scathing attack on his compatriot:
"Van Gaal is just a clown."He told RTL7 (via De Telegraaf) "It’s all show for the public.
“Louis is addicted to attention, like everyone at that level. It’s a stage for him, challenging him every time. And he think he does everything right.
“On the other hand, if he had been as dull as his predecessor David Moyes, he would have had long layoffs.”
Van Gaal’s United side lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie on Thursday night.
