Mr. Eazi is the 2016 Headies Next Rated award winner.

The ‘Hollop’ singer beat Ycee, Aramide, andHumblesmith to claim the prize that came with a brand new Hyundai Santa Fe SUV presented by comedian, AY.

Last year, the keenly contested category was controversially won by Mavin act, Reekado Banks ahead of Lil Kesh, Korede Bello and Kiss Daniel.

That led to YBNL leader Olamide complaining live on stage to a global audience.

2016 people’s favourite, Tekno was disqualified from the ‘Next Rated’ category for failing to participate in all of the required activities by organisers leading up to the event.

Thenetng obtained a copy of a letter sent to him by the Headies secretariat, and signed by executive producer Ayo Animashaun, informing of his disqualification.

‘Tekno has unfortunately not made himself available for any of the mandatory activities, hence the committee’s decision to effectively withdraw his nomination for this year.’

The document exclusively obtained by Thenetng, was sent to Tekno’s managers.

However, we could not immediately confirm if the letter got a response from Tekno’s team.

Wizkid signed Eazi along with R2bees and Efyato his record label, Starboy Entertainment at the 17th Ghana Music Awards in May.

The Ghana-based Nigerian born entertainer has hit songs such as ‘Skin Tight’, ‘Sample You’, ‘Hollop’ and ‘Anointing’.

Kiss Daniel meanwhile is the biggest winner of the night with three wins: Best R&B/Pop Album, Hip Hop World Revelation and Album of the Year for New Era.

Darey, Olamide, Illbliss and Simi follow with two awards each.
