Thousands of boozy Cambridge students descend on quiet family park for chaotic ‘Caesarian Sunday’ where revellers stripped half-naked

MORE THAN 2,000 Cambridge students descended on a quiet park for “Caesarian Sunday” where drunken revellers stripped half-naked and were left vomiting in the bushes.
Families looked on in shock as the university students began arriving for the annual event at about midday today – many armed with bags of booze.

Caesarian Sunday is seen as the birth of the drinking parties for the summer term and is historically held on the first May bank holiday.
In the past it began with a wrestling match between the Caesarian society and their Girton College drinking rivals, but this was banned by the colleges three years ago.

Many stripped off as the day went on and some of the students were left struggling to stand, while extra police had been drafted in to control the event.
The Caesarian society has a tradition whereby any initiated member can point at an invited male, or “Legionary” as they call it, keeping with the Roman theme, and he must then down his drink.
There is no limit to the number of times this can be done to any one individual, and it has been reported that many don’t make it much past the end of the meal.
The Wyverns drinking society has a reputation for its hard partying and excessive drinking.
Its initiation ceremony involves eating a 15-course meal with delicacies such as a pig’s snout with wasabi sauce and a pint of water with a goldfish swimming inside.
